Few days ago I had the chance to look through a good one and it was AWESOME. I'm new to this but don't want to waste my time with tacky beginner telescopes.

Saturn will be a remarkable sight in just about any telescope, but for a really good view (of Saturn and many other objects) I'd recommend a reflector telescope on a Dobsonian mount with at least 6" aperture:

Light pollution has no effect on observing the planets; I observed for many years from the centre of a large city.

The two articles below will give you a lot more good advice on telescopes.

Generally, a telescope with a long focal length and enough aperture to provide the proper resolution for the magnification.

You can actually get a good view of Saturn with a good 4.5" Newtonian, and the proper eyepiece.

You will be spending at least $300 to get a serious quality telescope.

Avoid department store telescopes, and buy a well known brand such as Meade, Celestron, or Orion, even Zhummell.

You also might want to go to a star party or contact your local astronomical society to try out different types of telescopes.

I bought a 4 in. for my grand daughter but it was a disappointment as they live in the edge of a large city . The problem was the city lights.
