Formal training would be great, but I know some people can't afford it. Practice, practice, practice! Also, if you know a good vocalist, maybe they would be willing to work with you.

Sometimes ther is no need to improve. There are many very popular rock sngers who actually have terrible voices. It's all in making your voice and personality fit what you're singing or singing what suits your voice.

Hire a good Lead Singer, Then work with the singer to gel and find a vocal style and try to improve your back-up vocals, you will get better!

you could try voice lessons and different breathing techniques. or, instead of singing, you could do a funky type of talk/sing with your voice. music is changing and open to anything new so, hey make it work. and good luck :)
