There is no way that I would plant a crepe myrtle here in Australia! They are pests. Beautiful yes, but pests.
Once planted they send up suckers everywhere. Never get rid of them. They were once very popular as they are perfect for our climate but now - no way. Another foreign import that has become a pest here.
My fav. tree is the 'Frangapani'.
Loves it here. Many, many colours have been developed to choose from. Very exotic. A carefree tree to grow & so beautiful. I love the carpets of flowers on the ground when they lose them.
My second fav. tree is the 'Jacaranda'. Simply beautiful. Once again the deep lavender flowers grow in profusion when in bloom. When they lose their flowers - lavender carpets underneath. Beautiful.

My "favorite" tree is the crepe myrtle. I have two, one has pink flowers & the other one has purple flower. My favorite bush, is the Confederate Jasmine. Talk about a sweet smelling bush. They sell them at Lowe's here in S.C. They have three varities, but I love my Confederate Jasmine.

i can't pick just one, i really like the way sycamores look in contrast to cedars. i love the big old oak trees in Florida with the spanish moss all over them. catalpa tree and tulip poplars with those big leaves really make great shade, and have interesting blooms. those are just a few.

Maple. They grow pretty quickly, they provide shade, and they turn such pretty colors in autumn in my part of the country.
Oh yeah. Forgot to add, they can be tapped in the spring for their sap, and they make wonderful syrup and candies.
