I know intentional irony isn't the G.O.P.'s strong suit. But think about it.

The whole "support the troops" thing is being used as a control mechanism anyway.

I don't think there are many who don't appreciate the effort and sacrifice these men make on our behalf, but this administration has turned "supporting the troops" into meaning that if you don't support the administration's policies, you're un-American and "against America and our troops"

We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. When the loyal opposition dies, I think the soul of America dies with it.

We support our troops by asking them to risk their lives for a civil war...one that has been fought for hundreds of years. I cannot understand how we are not supporting our troops by bringing them home!! We have lost another hundred troops in May. For what???????????? They don't want us there, their citizens are dying in large numbers and yet we continue to "stay the course." I'm sorry, but this was a mistake from the beginning and it's too bad that 3000+ servicemen/women had to die for a President that has shamed the title of Commander in Chief. This is lasting longer than WWII. When will we finally say, "it's time to come home?"

Yes. Just like cutting combat pay, cutting veterans benefits, hiring mercenaries and extending tours of duty is 'supporting the troops'.

Good observation.

Let's all "support our troops" by publicly telling the enemy that we have lost the war - or, perhaps, initiate a few more proposals to tell them when we are going to leave so they can better plan their victory celebration, or, better yet, just flat out tell the enemy that we have adopted a policy of defeat.

This isn't "intentional irony" - it's bordering on treasonous behavior.

Keeping the troops in Iraq as unwanted occupying targets is not "supporting the troops."

104 dead Americans in April in Iraq
104 dead Americans in May in Iraq

SUPPORT THE TROOPS
BRING THEM HOME

you can't WIN an occupation!

That's exactly what it is. To put our soldiers in harm's way when there is nothing to be accomplished is basically saying their lives don't matter--that they're jsut there to be cannon fodder so politicians can cover their a~ses.

this question is best answered by the troops themselves. but in my opinion your question is based mainly on political propaganda and assumptions.
