Conflict Diamonds?

I'm doing a research paper on blood diamonds, and I was wondering if anyone knew what diamond companies were involved.

Most all of them.out of 30 companies, 25--including international luxury companies like Bulgari, Cartier, and Harry Winston--failed to respond to Global Witness in writing about their policies on conflict diamonds and how they ensure that none are sold by their stores. U.S. jewelry chains, including Littman Jewelers, Whitehall Jewelers and U.S. department stores like Bloomingdales, Macy's and Saks Fifth Avenue, also failed to respond.

Actually very few of them, directly anyway, although there is some suggestion that they could have done more. Once the Canadian and Russian diamonds came on the market there was no need, at all, to take conflict diamonds, so now only a few use them, and those companies don't advertise where they get their diamonds, but usually mix them with non-blood diamonds, so who would know? You can do a google search on these, use the advance search option and look for blood diamonds.

The problem is all diamonds, regardless of the source, are sold at auction in Antwerp. Companies buy them. Sometimes they know where they originated, but not always. If they find out and are uncomfortable with it, they just put them up for auction again. Eventually someone buys them who just covers up their origin.
