My boyfriend likes watching Red Sox games and he is wondering why do they sing it? When did they start doing that? He wants some info about the whole craze of that song during the 7th inning stretch. By the way he says its an awesome song: BAH BAH BAH BAH!

I have the real answer.
My cousin, who is a huge Red Sox fan, wrote a movie called Beautiful girls. In the movie, a bunch of friends who love the Red Sox sit at a bar and sing "Sweet Caroline". At the time the movie came out, someone from the Sox who saw the movie decided to play the song at a game and it was a big hit so it has been played every game since.
Watch the movie and check it out, its a really good flick. Watch the clip from youtube.

As far as that article goes from Elliots link....I cant believe that Toby person didnt give credit to the real person. She claims she just came up with it out of thin air? Weak and marginal plagerism.

Caroline was the name of Neil Diamond's first girlfriend. He wrote the song for her. It is sung at Fenway Park because she was a Red Sox fan.

First they actually play it in the middle of the eighth inning not the seventh

Amy Tobey of the red sox was the person that chose the song because it had been played at many sporting events after it was played the first couple times it caught on and stuck.

Some marketing woman in the 90's selected it. The players hate it, but the fans like it so it stays.

They play it in the eighth inning, however--not during the 7th inning stretch.

Fenway, one of the last great parks.

I don't know exactly why they do it, but I believe it started in 2003 or 2004.
The Red Sox fans probubly don't even know why they sing it, they're usually three sheets to the wind by the 7th inning. Well, at least they are when they're not throwing their beer at the opposing team.

becaus boston fans love their team, and sweet caroline is just another form of expressing the passion that it is to be a part of red sox nation, and another trademark of going to a sawx game
