My 6 month old sleeps from 8pm to 6am. She's eating 5 times a day (bottles at 6, 10, 2, 4, & 8, and solids at 2 of those meals). When she was still waking in the night, I would go in and turn her mobile on and then leave. She'd be quieted back down in less than a minute. You know your baby's cries at this point. Don't deny her food if she's hungry, but watch the clock and if the baby is waking at the exact same time every night its probably more out of habit, so its up to you to rework the habit so that he/she is able to self soothe back to sleep.

Read The No-Cry Sleep Solution by Elizabeth Pantley. It's amazing. I made my first child cry it out, and like other CIO babies, she is very needy at night, even at 3 years old. With my second child, I used the NCSS and she slept well from very early on and still does. The three year old wakes more often than the 18 month old! It will take longer than the cry it out techniques (like Ferber), but it will be less work in the long run because you'll only have to teach it once. Good luck!
ps--Most 6 month olds do not sleep through the night, so make your peace with some night waking. It will get easier.

Hi,
I swear by the book Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child by Marc Weissbluth, he's the founder of the Sleep Disorders Clinic.
My baby girl was sleeping through the night by 6 weeks. It is my baby bible, and she's a very happy content baby, she's 9 months now, I followed this book to a T! (for just sleep habits) and she consistantly goes to bed at 6pm sleeps stright to 7am , she naps 3 times durring the day. IT's a awesome book! There is no reason a 6 month old can't sleep through the night. And you don't need to do the let cry, this book has other ways depending on your child

Give him his lunch, then an afternoon nap. Let him sleep for2-3 hrs. If, he is still a sleep, wake-him up.(I know it sounds mean) take him for a walk holding him your arms( you don't want him to go back to sleep),play with him,ect.. Feed him his supper around 5:pm if he can hold off. If not give him some juice. Put him down for the night,@ 6:30pm to 7:pm. I'm sure you will get a good night sleep yourself. He will probably-wake up @ 2:am, but go back to sleep, and wake in the morning about 7:am. Trust he will get used to his seclude.

Your baby is probably hungry and you should feed your 6 mth old more and he/she might be able to sleep through the night. I have a 6 mth old son and he sleeps through the night, I have to admit that he has been waking up in the middle of the night because he is hungry. As soon as I give him some food he falls back a sleep. Good Luck to you!!!

There's nothing you can do. I'm lucky my baby started to sleep through the night at 21/2 month and still does at 5 months.

Is the baby just on milk/formula?? If so why not start introducing solids. This way the babys stomach is full and will sleep through.
This is a website that has some good information on it. www.wholesomebabyfood.com
Otherwise bath well before bed time and give them a feed and then settle. I found that by giving a bath just before bed they were more inclined to wake up several times so I give bath before dinner. Hope this works.

6 months is too young to expect a baby to sleep through the night. Some people are lucky with babies that sleep through the night from an early age. They really arent supposed to though. Babies need to eat around the clock because their tummies arent big enough to hold alot of food. Around a year you can drop night time feedings and eventually they will break the habit of waking up at night.

All of my children were sleeping through the night at about 4-5 months old. If you're breast-feeding, it may take a little longer, as breast milk is digested very quickly, in comparison to formula.
At bed-time, I usually gave my babies a couple of tbsp. of rice pablum, mixed with breast milk or formula ... then fed them another 6 oz, or let them breast -feed for as long as they needed to. This kept their little tummies full a lot longer than milk alone, and they slept comfortably for the whole night (usually 10:00 pm until 6:00 am). I found that giving them a warm bath, after they've had their pablum snack, would also help tremendously. Wishin' you luck ... :)

After your infant's nightly feeding put them in the crib with a sound machine playing a mother's heartbeat. They have a teddy bear that does this, but I think it looks a little creepy. They also make these little devices which can clip on to the side of a crib and vibrate, which is a soothing effect.
