I played in high school against Scott Rolen and knew him a little off the field. Also know Preston Mattingly, son of Don Mattingly, and he has a bright future as a MLBer. Also know a couple of career minor leaguers, but that isn't all that exciting.

When I lived in Rogers Park, nw of Loyola Lakeshore campus in Chicago, the guy down the hall from me, whom I'll refer to as Honest John, was a John Marshall law school student who had been on a pro team for a couple seasons. Honest John decided to leave the pros to become a lawyer. No, we did not get along. AT one point we actually fought each other in the hallway. Hilarious now, but I am not really proud of that moment. He was such a right wing spoiled *** son of a Marielita.

I used to work with the daughter, and son-in-law, of Nino Bongiovanni, and once had dinner with him. Talked a lot of baseball, got some first-hand recollections, had him sign a copy of Ritter's The Glory Of Their Times (even though he's not in it; general "olde tymer" concept; great wonderful book, every baseball fan should read it).

No, you've never heard of him, but he played parts of two seasons with the Reds long ago. Look him up.

No, I don't. In college I dated someone on the baseball team though! I dated someone that turned down a baseball scholarship once upon a time.
