Is it more the politicians or the media who covers it? I think the majority of the country is mostly moderate.

The left. They are not compassionate at all.

I agree that the country is mostly moderate, and the public debate has been reduced to whatever attracts the most attention. The Al Sharptons and Ann Coulters of the world get the most television time because they have a talent for demagoguery that the majority of Americans don't share. It ceased to matter a long time ago whether mainstream Americans agreed with either one of them, or their ilk.

I will say this, however: ugly, personal political wars being fought through the media are not new by any means. It's too easy to point the finger at 24-hour cable news networks. If you don't believe me, research the intrigue that took place between our Founding Fathers through the print media of their time. Jefferson, Hamilton and Adams regularly stabbed one another in the back, though generally through surrogates or pseudonyms. Not so different from Sharpton or Coulter, when you get down to it.

I think the media is mostly to blame. It's terrible in school, my son says. The middle and high school kids have decided who to hang out with based on political opinion. We're Republicans, and my kids go to an Arts school, so there's mostly Liberals there, and the stuff my kids hear is horrible. 13 year olds saying "I hate the President of the United States." They hear these comments on TV, or their parents disrespecting the President, so it's like monkey see, monkey do. The childishness of some adults is very sad too. I saw a bumper sticker last week that said "Bush is poopie". Yeah, it was funny, but not appropriate for an adult.

I would say the media who covers it. There is more technology now from the internet to cable tv and this gives more voice to nuts on both sides of the isle. Politicians have more chances to say things that are divisive because there are more outlets to get those oppinions across. The internet is full of political propaganda that is completely unfactual.

It has to be the conservative-biased media. We bombarded with Republican propaganda from the likes of Fox "News", which is nothing more than a pr machine for conservatives, and Rush Limbaugh, who is America's version of Adolph Hitler as he rants and raves like an insane lunatic without substance, facts, truth, accuracy or competence. But - what the Hell? - he's made himself a multi-millionaire while brainwashing impressionable 'ditto heads' who either aren't smart enough to form their own opinions or are just to lazy to change the channel and get a more objective dialog. The verbal toxic poison that Limbaugh spews forth everyday only serves to inflame the divorcement between the left and the right, creating more hatred, bias, bigotry and division when what we need is more unity, tolerance of each other's views and a willingness to listen to those who disagree with us. -RKO- 05/28/07

I think it is mostly the pols. Dems went ballistic after losing Congress in 94 & went nuclear after losing the WH in 00. The press just exploits this for ratings.

The left and the right. Media has nothing to do with it.
