The cars were so sloppy in their formation, and the green flag was given. Unbelievable! I've seen starters make the field go around again. Usually at least the first two or three rows are insisted on before a green is shown. Anyone else notice?

It was probably a rushed start because of the rain, you are right it looked like they should have held the flag and got them lined up better

It was a terrible start !! I thought there was 1 more pace lap, then I saw the green flag, then whoa , really ??!! It looked like the first 3 or 4 cars got into a single file staggered line before the brick ! \
At the rest of the Indy Car Series races starts are fine. But hey at leat the IRL doesn't have the starts that Champ Car and Nascab have !

It was stated on IRL radio network that Brian Bernhardt, the director of motor operations for Indy, told the drivers to start like this to avoid the famous crashes that have occurred in past races. He did not want the race starting in green and then go yellow with mistakes that have taken out top drivers in the past before the first lap even began. He did not want to see the three and or four car wide at the start line and see everyone cut everyone else off at corner one.

I have been to every race since 1991 and both me and my dad thought that there was going to be another pace lap. All of the sudden it was green! I guess it WAS started early??

they had to do it quick because the rain was coming and they wanted to get as many done so they could make it official
