How can I re-establish a modem?

I recently upgraded my OS to XP from Windows ME and it seems to have removed my modem and I can no longer connect to the internet. Is there a way that I can re-establish it without having to go through th process again. And if I do have to go through the process again, is there a way that I can ensure that the modem will be intact?

reinstall the modem driver. It did't hurt your modem physiaclayy, your computer just cant "see" it.
