Why weren't the men who sponsored or voted for the so-called First Amendment to the Constitution hanged for trying to make the USA some kind of tree-hugging sodomite socialist liberal atheist pro-abortion anti-American commie nation?

This is assuming that anyone has a problem with the establishment and free speech clauses. It is the interpretation of modern liberals that I have a problem with. They do not want to allow everyone to have free speech. They do not want to allow Christians in government.

The first amendment is what America is all about. The freedom to choose your religion, the freedom to meet with your friends, the freedom to petition the government, and the freedom to publish your ideas.
Without it, we would likely be a theocratic dictatorship, like Iran, by this point.

The king and parlaiment would have loved to see that happen. There are those who say liberals today don't appreciate the first amendment. However, this link says otherwise.
