It started 5 months ago and now I cannot stop. I crave this stuff and even dream about how to eat it. I prefer my starch cold and with Coke or ginger ale. My family is livid and want me to stop. I have done research on the starch and have gone great lengths to obtain it. My supply is less than a mile away and when I go into the store they know what I need. Yesterday the craving was so bad that I was literally thinking about counting pennies to purchase a box. What is wrong with me?

I have the same problem, It started last year in May. I use to eat it as a little girl but I grew out of it, but it just snuck up on me one day. I have to have it everyday. It has gotten so bad that I order it online but it doesn't taste the same as the store. I sometimes send my brother to the store while i'm at work to get me a box that way it will be easy access when i get home, i eat a box every other day. I know this may sound crazy but I put it in a ziplock bag and put it in a closed drawer for a few hours so it can have the crunchy taste to it. I guess I crave it because I grew up in the country and my whole family ate it and some still do. I just need to get some help and stop before its to late and something terrible happens. If anyone has a soultion to my problem please email me at nellygirl40@yahoo.com

It's just starch. Maybe you should do some research on food generally, and figure out where starch comes from, and start having the more nutritious and tasty versions of it.

Potatoes, for example. Pasta. Bread. Polenta.

There's really nothing wrong with eating starch, you've just chosen a really unusual form of it. Try to meet your hunger for starch in a more conventional way.

Replace it with something you are supposed to eat and then you can get addicted to that. Starch is found in many foods and there's a good website called healthypotato.com which has downloads about starchy foods and recipes. Just switch your habit to another source of starch.

I have heard of this but not in a long, long time. Usually pregnant women crave it. I am told that there is something missing in your diet that causes these cravings....like maybe iron.

I do know that craving ice; is a result of low iron in the blood. I experienced this awhile back and the doctor found that I had low iron.

You need to see a doctor and have some blood work done.

It is a lack of iron. Start taking the iron and your craving will go away. See a doctor to figure out the proper dose of iron you need.

I don't know why you put this in the mythology section.

The compulsion to eat non-food items is called "pica". Talk to a doctor.
