I have always thought that driving drunk should be considered attempted murder. Yes life is a good idea.
I hate losers who drive drunk.
My father used to drive drunk with us in the car all the time until we wrecked early one morning going home from one of his all night parties. Then my older brothers best friend was killed by a drunk driver while standing next his car. So yes I would even be OK with the death penalty but most people tell me that's too harsh. (Say that after they kill your child, mother, father, friend etc...)

If it is any consolation, the jail and prison sentences for repeat offenders have become more strict. I wish they were even more stringent than they are, as stiff prison sentences tend to have more of an impact when folks make choices.
Not all drunks who drive are responsible for the deaths of others, however, so placing that rigid of a law on all people would be unconstitutional. Something tells me you may have either witnessed this horrific event, or knew the precious souls who have passed on from this worldly realm.
I wish you a heart filled with understanding and compassion. Folks like you, who have passion for what they believe, have good luck in getting laws changed. Give it a try, and I hope you have a fantastic week! Annie

I think life in prison is a little severe for the first offense...I hate drunk drivers and think that there should be a mandatory sentence of 5 years for the 1st offense, but life in prison is a bit extreme...the states would never be able to keep up w/ the system...

Life in prison? Come on...that means our uncles, cousins, possibly mothers, fathers...friends, acquaintances, bosses, pastors would all be in jail.
Do you know what over flooding our prison system means? Do you have any idea what it would do to the average joe tax payer? You sir, are an idiot.
Drunk driving is bad...but I hear cases all the time of people being convicted of manslaughter cause they drove drunk and killed someone. The stiff penalty's are out there! And if you think drunk drivers should get life, doesn't that mean we should boost up other sentences? Such as murder, rape, grand theft auto etc etc?

Life in prison would be a great way to rid the world of people who claim it is their first offense.

Would not work. 1/2 of the country would be in jail in a few years. Not enough prisons, and the rest of us who are SMART AND MATURE ENOUGH not to drink (or smoke, or take illegal drugs, or rob and steal), would be stuck with the bill to build and maintain all those prisons.

I think that's just a tad harsh. However, I am in favor of instant suspension of license for a minimum of one year, and impounding their vehicle. Less cost of supporting them in prison to the tax payers, and still eliminates the problem.
