i'm selling my mac and want to reset the computer so that the buyer cannot access my files how do i do this?? even if everything is deleted???

all you have to do is format the hard drive. that will erase everything on your computer

1.u can do this by formatiing whole of ur imac..
2.use the software Tuneup utilities ..it has undelete option to recover files .that are accessible ..then u can shred those with that software..using secured delete in that ...
so now nobody can retreive ur data by any means ...and ur on safe side..

use a program like eraser that overwrites then entire drive and then reinstall your MacOS. Make sure you over write BOTH written and un-written areas.
