Would it be a good idea to use a paint, stain, dark leather polish, etc.?

NOT paint or stain. They get sticky and will ruin the leather which needs to breathe. A dark leather polish is definitely your best best bet. Good luck.

I definitely would not recommend painting it. I would say your best bet would be to use some dark leather polish. Just be sure whatever you do don't use too much of it. Don't want your glove to dry out, crack or become too heavy.

leave it out in the sun. The leather will darken

Keep rubbing neatsfoot oil all over it , it will not only make it darker it will keep it soft & pliable
