I recieved my sat scores today, and i don't know how to feel about them... critical reading-620, math-700 and writing-600. What is considered an average, good or above average score? I'm trying to decide if i should take the test again. Please enlighten me!

Yes, it depends on how good a college you are applying for. These are decent scores, and what I look for is: About the same score in each area, meaning that I am balanced. And around 650-700 in each area.

The best strategy is to consider where you want to go to college and research up on their average SAT scores.
However, even if you are very close to those averages, it doesn't hurt to always try and get a higher score. That way, it is more likely that you will be accepted to your college of choice.
In addition, if you do not like the SAT or do not want to take it again for some reason, you can always take the ACT. Most universities accept both.

It really depends on the school that you want to get into. Take a look at the average scores that the school accepts and try to aim several points above that average score. Otherwise there really is no way to say you got a "good" score.

The average score for an SAT is about 500 - 550 for each part.

"Good" means good enough to do what you want to do. So, if you want to goto Harvard, Duke, Stanford, UChicago, etc then these are not "good". But if you want to go to State U. these are probably fine.

The SAT is not a measure of whether you are a good person or not. It is just one of several ways that colleges try to judge whether you will fit comfortably into their academic programs. If you have an SAT that is about in the mid range for kids at the college you want to go to, then that is a "good" score.

It's above average but not that good. I would retake the test again if I were you. I got 2 perfect scores in math and reading, but my writing score was only 720, for a total of 2320. I only read this SAT guide, and that is how I got such high scores:

I recommend this guide to anyone seeking to get a higher score to get into a first choice college.

I think all students should boycott SAT's 90% of our elected officials cannot pass them so this government method of pigeonholing kids for life is NO indication of how far you can go in life. They have USAT in Utah.. only ONE of our congressmen passsed it with a better grade than a D..
