it says to disconnect the negative side of the battery for five mins. and then reconnect it AT MY OWN RISK so the computer would get used to the new intake, should i do what the instructions say or just leave it alone. car runs a lil better and gave me a lil more sound in exhaust the way it is now.

Hi. Your car's computer will default to a preset table when you disconnect the battery. As you drive the computer will 'Learn" and adjust engine parameters to their best. If you do not disconnect the battery then engine will start with the values is has already learned. No harm either way. I would disconnect it.

I would suggest diconnecting the battery and wait 5-10 mins and then reconnect. This is to reset the ECU which sorts out the air/fuel mix ratios. (Like the 2 people above me said)

The warning is because you disconnect the Negative terminal, which will create a spark. Then when you reconnect the battery, it will spark again, sparking is fine if only like once or twice, however the sparks can burn you if it sparks and makes contact with you, hence the warning

most new cars have oxygen sensors and fuel sensors to determine what is the best mixture of fuel and air for your engine to run at peak horsepower. Taking the battery off means you are resetting your computer to recalibrate your sensors.

CIRRIC is right just read his answer BUT remember that you will loose your radio station settings....... Just drive... The brain will learn as you drive it will adjust to different drivers too.

Keep the shinny side up and the dirty side down

Disconnecting the battery may help, and won't hurt a thing.
