Same as above
Did you pay with CASH?
Where you given a receipt?
When you moved into your current apartment or home did you receive a RENTAL AGREEMENT or did you sign a LEASE AGREEMENT?

You should NOT need proof for the DEPOSIT unless you are asked for it.

When you give NOTICE in WRITING it is clear and understood that you will NOT be paying the last month's rent since you are giving NOTICE in advance that you are going to vacate the property.

If you have a contract with no security deposit and the contract reflects that you have paid the last month's rent, then you simply give your notice in writing confirming the details of when and how the last month's rent was paid for. If it was cash or money order, enclose a copy of the receipt.
The only thing you would have to pay with your written notice would be the difference, if the rent had increased since you moved in.
You only need "proof" if there is a dispute between you and the landlord.

You signed a lease...a legal document. You are bound by the conditions of the lease you signed. If the lease states you paid first and last month's rent, what is the problem? Your landlord knows what his/her lease agreement says.
On the other hand, if you are trying to get out of paying rent, then you are not abiding by the terms of the lease and the landlord may sue you..which will cost a lot more than the last month's rent. Be ethical and moral...abide by the agreement you made with the landlord.

You should review you lease that you signed when you moved in. Be sure that it is the last months rent that you gave. If so, and it is not specifically prohibited by the lease you should include in your notice that " I will be using my last months rent provided yo you at move in as my final rent/lease payment.
Make sure there is no question of what you are doing. Don't assume anything, always put it in writing.

Did you satisfy your lease agreement ?
Work with your landlord. Invite him in to inspect the property to assure him that you did not wreck the place.
Usually, that is why they take last and first month rent. Why make enemies, you will need a reference on your next rental.
Good luck

I hope you kept your receipt, but you have already paid your last months rent, you don't need to say anything about it, that's like daaa. Always keep receipts for important things like this.
