Why red? it is a standard, if it is? who decided the colors, where?

its been like that for years,their like that because red has always meant stop on everything,back when there was just stop signs and no red lights the signs were red also and still are,its just a color that is noticeable,and has always meant to be used as a stop signal,another thing also,red will catch anyones attention,its one of the colors that will draw your attention that's why its used,i have no idea when it actually started,but its been on cars for ever,good luck,

In most cases, the color filter applied to the lens (cover), in some cases to the bulb (and the lens is transparent). As any other optical filter, those let through the red light (and some of the closest spectrum neighbors) and block other colors.

The human brain recognizes and reacts faster to the color red than it does to any other color. Businesses on the side of the road will often use the color red in their signs because people unconsciously focus on red objects.

red is the most noticeable color. red catches the eye and thats a good thing if someone is behind u and u make a sudden stop.

Could be at night red light doesn't screw up your night vision and it is still noticeable during the day.

red generally means that the object with the red lights is moving away from you. this is why reversing lights are white, bc the vehicle is moving towards you when its reversing. as far as who decided?? who knows...who decided that red is called red?? what came first, the chicken or the egg??? good questions...but who cares!
