Aleve works the best for me. When I was younger, my gyn prescribed naproxin sodium to me for my cramps, thry use to be horrible. It worked fine. That is the active ingredient in aleve.

Different things work differently for different people but I always preferred Premsyn which not only helped with the cramps but also helped to level my nasty mood. I started taking them 3 days before I was going to start to get it built up in my system and then took them through the third day of my period. I had bad cramps, upset stomach, diarrhea (first day only), headaches and a bad attitude.
Some girls I worked with used Midol and seemed to do ok with it but it never helped me very much so if the time comes and you need them, try different ones and see which works best for you. Let's hope you won't have problems.
And remember, sometimes exercising can help relieve cramps so you might want to do that regularly and maybe keep them at bay. I had disabilities so exercise was difficult for me or I would have done it all the time. One time when I did do them for a couple of days, I had a smooth month and thought I was in heaven ~ lol (well, almost :)

It is different for different women, and can change over time. Aspirin used to work the best for me, but then Tylenol, and most recently Ibuprofin. Mydol works best for some women, too.
To minimize cramps, though, go on a low sugar, increased protein diet for the 2 weeks prior to the expected start date of your period, if you don't go on a low glycemic carb diet period.
The increased protein, and lower sugars, may help reduce your PMS as well as your cramps.

Aleve always worked best for me - but people respond differently to various medications. A hot water bottle wrapped in a towel and placed on the lower abdomen also tends to offer relief. Women who use birth control pills often find that this stops menstrual cramping, or at least minimizes it.

i know how that feels sister! :o(
ibuprofen and paracetamol can be taken together safely and are very effective - especially if you take them regularly for the couple of days you are in pain. in the uk there is also a brand drug called feminax which i have always found to be quick and effective.
sending good vibes and wishing you pain free soon!

I have tried everything over the counter and nothing ever worked for me except for Midol. I have some harsh ones too but Midol was always great to me and works fast.

If you are over 18.....you can take Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin). That always works best for me.
If you are under 18, you should only take Tylenol. (Kids and teens should not take Ibuprofen because it's aspirin-like).
