What would my legal position be (UK resident) if I were to copy a Vinyl record I own and of which I physically hold a copy, to a CD and or MP3 for my own use?

In most countries is allowed but only for backup purposes, but you can't give copies for your friends.

That is perfectly legal, so long as you own a legitimate copy. You may make ONE copy for personal use only. You may not transfer that copy to anyone else, nor may you charge admission (or any other fees) for it. You MAY use it for educational purposes, such as use in a classroom.

You should be fine. If you own a hard copy, it is ok to convert it to a digital format for your personal use.

touch the 20 publishers and get a license to post 20 copies of the song. the certainty of it quite is which you're very, very not likely to have a difficulty with this, except between the travellers is a RIAA member.

You're OK. You own a copy. You just cannot sell it or make money out of it.
