I am not saying that I am for this idea. I just want to know how far would we go to solve the open border problem at the same time keeping the cost down.

diego b---- you are a perfect example of disrespect. You are the kind of person that has no place answering questions here. You have nothing constructive to give. Shame on you!

Channa------READ the whole question dear before to mount your soap box and make personal attacks.I clearly said that I dont support this idea. The whole reason for this site is too ask question that get people thinking and communicating. The ugly questions need to be asked so that we can see the line before it is crossed.

I am thinking we should dig a canal from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific ocean and use it instead of paying rent to Panama. The biggest problem with the Mexican border is not that they can cross it is that they don't go back once the get here...so maybe if we have a canal built then at the checkpoint on the US side we can attach a leash and reel them in when they don't come back in a couple days.

Invading a country is an act of war and that is what the Mexicans are doing. Many of them even say they are part of a conquering army and intend to steal part of the United States. When being invaded, military means must be used to stop the aggression, and land mines would be a good place to start. Motion activated machine guns would be good too.
We know muslim terrorists are sneaking across the border along with Mexicans. How many US cities will liberals let them bomb before they let us secure the border?

No I believe it is International law or an international agreement...but the US has not signed the cluster bomb agreement, along with only Russia and Israel, so maybe they could drop cluster bombs along the border on an hourly basis then it would get the one's crossing and the Mexican children could pick up the brightly coloured residual bombs and blow off their hands and be of no use to the greedy corporations who hire the illegals unless maybe they could pick corn to fuel the tanks of the Hummers the corporate execs drive....ludicrous...of course, but it just might allow Americans to see what a devastation to the general population that cluster bombs cause...and of course as ludicrous as the idea of landmines.

I prefer we go back to the Bracero program (google search it). It worked before and almost everybody was happy (although we could have a modified program similar to the Bracero program) and the "Operation *******" program should also come back (sorry, that's the name of the program). I'm pro-closed borders and anti-amnesty but support these 2 programs that worked well in the past (look for info on these 2). Much better than legalizing illegal immigrants I think. Thanks!

What exactly is the "open border problem"? We must first examine this question before we find a solution. Finally, yes, this would absolutely constitute a HUMAN rights violation. Slaughtering people who are searching for a better life than that which has been destroyed by U.S. trade policies is certainly a bad idea and does not exactly fit into the "American dream" ideal.

We could encourage President Bush to give the border patrol agents the same orders that the President of Mexico gives his agents when people are crossing their southern border, " shoot to kill "

I don't know what scares me more- the fact that you'd actually ask such a question or the fact that you have children. And we wonder why there is so much hate in the world.
Answer me this question- what right do you have to take another human being's life? Is that what your Bible taught you?
P.S. Ann Coulter, is that you?

I like fishing out of the river in the Big Bend National Park. Putting landmines in the area would hinder my freedom to fish.

Maybe some land mines with dollar bills on top of them around the capital to lure fat a s s congressmen to them since they are the real reason for illegal imigration.
