Up to around 1660 English pennies were hammered and not made by machine. These coins have values from $30 and up depending on how rare the date is and what grade the coin is. The Pennies of the 1700's are machine made and sell for $10 and up again depending on rarity of date and grade. A lot of the English Pennies in the early 1700's were used here in the U.S. There is a good collecting group for all the British coins of the periods you mentioned. You need to find a coin dealer in these items. Google can help, as well as World Coin News, A monthly coin magazine.

You obviously mean the english version of the penny since the first penny in the USA used was 1787 issued by benjamin franklin. The first lincoln penny was minted in 1909 replacing the indian head penny. In 1943, the Lincoln penny was made of steel (with a zinc coating) because copper was needed for military use in World War II.

The penny in england however was created in 785 by King Offa of Mercia.

Look in the coins section on Ebay and find the relevant era for your coins...you may then get an idea of current market values as specialists buy on Ebay these days.

Any coin with a readable date 1700's or earlier may have significant value.
Keep them in a safe place, and don't clean them.

I honestly don't know.

I would maybe recommend that you go to a antiques shop and they could advise you.

You could also take them to a museum and they may buy them off you seen as they are from that era.

Hope this helps and i hope they are worth something
Alec
