The ouija board is just a toy. It's caused by the movements of your hands which you do sub-consiously. People at the board try and guess answers and without realizing it they move their hands. So no, you're not contacting evil spirits. It's just a toy.

In fact, my younger siblings were watching a show called "Mystery Hunters" or something. Anyways, the people their explained that if you use the Ouija board with your eyes closed and have a friend record all the letters, all you'll get is gibberish.

Some religous people will tell you not to mess with the board. Scientists give the explation above.

However, feel free to invite some friends and try to creep them out!

The “Ouija Board” is not a mere “game.” It is a mechanical device used by those who believe they can contact the dead, and elicit information from them. The term is defined in the following fashion:

“A small game board containing numbers and letters used by spiritists to contact the souls of the departed during a sŽance. Participants sit at a table around the Ouija board and place hands on a ‘pointer.’ The pointer is then moved around the board to various letters [allegedly] by the visiting spirit(s). The resulting message [supposedly] is the communication desired from the supernatural spirit world” (George A. Mather & Larry A. Nichols, Dictionary of Cults, Sects, Religions and the Occult, Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 1993, p. 217).

Attempting to contact the dead by means of a Ouija Board is a practice that is in violation of several biblical principles. Let us briefly illustrate this by appealing to passages from both Testaments of the Bible.

The prophet Isaiah, in chastising those who were enticed by the practices of paganism, admonished:

“When they say to you, ‘Consult the mediums and the spiritists who whisper and mutter,’ should not a people consult their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living?” (Isa. 8:19 – NASB).

Heathen people have always attempted to communicate with the dead. Among the Assyrians and Babylonians it was even customary for relatives to provide food and drink at the graves of their departed loved ones. Attempts to contact the dead were condemned by the prophets of God (see: Lev. 19:31; 20:6,27; Deut. 18:10-11).

In Galatians 5:19ff, certain “works of the flesh” are condemned. One of these is “sorcery.” Among the things embraced by this term is the “pretended communication with invisible malignant powers” (James MacKnight, Apostolical Epistles, Nashville: Gospel Advocate, 1954, p. 301). Ancient sorcery and modern “spiritism” have much in common.

In addition to being in violation of the explicit warnings of Scripture, the practice of seeking communication with the dead is futile.

The dead cannot advise the living concerning earthly activities because, as the biblical record notes: ” . . .the dead know not anything . . . under the sun” (Eccl. 9:5—6). When a person dies, he is cut off from all scenes of earthly activity. Not even the great saints of antiquity are cognizant of our present plight. “Abraham knows us not” (cf. Isa. 63:16).

The rich man of Luke 16 certainly was not able to contact his earthly brothers. Otherwise, he would not have petitioned “father Abraham” to send Lazarus to them—a request, incidentally, which was refused (Lk. 16:27ff).

It is a grievous tragedy that many people are enmeshed in antiquated superstition. But when people turn away from the Bible as the source of supernatural information, experience demonstrates they do not believe simply in nothing; they believe in anything!

before you even started you need to cleanse the board .depending on your belief. passing it throw insense smoke like frankencence or sage and others ,will help keeping in mind that your purpose for doing this is to cleanse the board of all left over energy, when you do start ask for those who are there to help. If you are not sure if it is your grandma ask a question only you and her are sure to know. At the end always say thankyou and let them know nicely that it is time for them to go.

I would stay away from Ouija boards.
As a child, I did not know that bad spirits could come from them.
I will not go into details, but a very scary experience happened.
In my opinion, you are inviting bad spirits in by playing with it. I know this sounds over the top and crazy.
But, I would completely avoid the "game".

And "some religious people" will tell you that if you DO "mess with the board" you just may get evil spirits delighted to mislead you into sin.
Me, I don't see any reason why devils can't mess with your neural impulses, if the scientific theory is true.
And on the other hand, believers will tell you that the blindfold test is disrespectful of the spirits, and of COURSE it will get nowhere.

Its Ouija boards and no they do not work because there are no such things as ghosts or spirits. You speaking to your grandmother could be one of a few things...you were doing it with a partner and they just wanted to mess with you, you purposely moved it that way, or you subconsciously moved it to say what you wanted it to, I don't know which one it is but basic intellect says it is one of those three things.
