it only knocks when it starts up.

Sure - in fact, it's better if you do. If it comes apart inside the engine, it will do lots of damage to many other parts. Fixing it now will be easier, faster, and cheaper. Of course, if this is happening now, it may be that there are other problems, and that fixing this will not help the other problems. But you can't know that until the engine has been taken apart and the mechanic sees the condition inside.

the damage is already done to the engine,and the knocking could be a piston,or rod brng... and if it's cold is the only time it does it,it's the piston.. an aluminum piston will sure enough shrink when it's cold,and expand when it gets hot.. if you're not smoking blue from the exhaust,you're still good shape.and if it doesn't knock after it gets warm. it's still got life in the engine. and some new engines will knock when they are cold...just fora little... ..

sounds like a bad oil pump ,theres probably more damage than you think,hard to tell if you love the car get it checked ,or but a new one

yes you can. Just take it to any local garage and have it checked out and adjusted to the right torque specifications.
