i dont get what happens to cause the plus sign in the middle to become a minus sign here:

1/2ln (e^6 - 2e^4 + e^2) + ln (e^6 - e^2)

= 1/2ln ((e^3- e)^2) + ln((e^3 + e)(e^3 - e))

=ln (e^3 - e) - ln ((e^3 + e)(e^3 - e))

where does the change come from?!?!

It comes from a typo. There is no reason why that plus sign would change to a minus sign. The first term has been properly simplified, and the term being added is suddenly being subtracted. It's an error in the document.

It should remain a plus sign. Changing it is an error.

question: 2^(2x+a million) = 3^(2x) -a million separate the indices so as that it quite is in this sort: (2^x)² * 2 = (3^x)² - a million ---------------------------------------... (2^x)² is the comparable as 2^(2x). and a couple of^a million = 2) replace 2^x with t (t)² * 2 = (t)² - a million t² * 2 = 3t - a million 2t² = 3t - a million 2t² - 3t-a million = 0 factorise it (2t-a million)(t-2) = 0 t=a million/2 and t=2 replace t with 2^x 2^x = a million/2 and a couple of^x = 2 log (base2) a million/2 = -a million log (base2) 2 = a million
