America is now indisputably a CAR CULTURE. Because very few people challenge this way of life, the U.S. needs oil from every single source it can get to preserve that way of life for the future. As sad as the dependence of oil for gasoline is, the majority are now even willing to accept how the dependence on oil is leading to more pollution and political corruption in the form of war in the Middle East with the desire for oil as part of a vested interest that is simply tolerated because of a way of life. Advertising even tells people having your own car is a sign of freedom. The oil industry, the automotive industry, the media, and all related giants of industry are supporting the dependence on oil for the sake of big profit. Iraq is something like the third largest producer of oil in the world. So, you can understand why it becomes more clear the U.S. would quickly kill thousands of Iraqi civilians in Operation Shock and Awe but not step one foot into parts of the world where tyrrants rule but there is no oil.
