The light levels are quite different inside than outside. You'd have to acclimate the plant, slowly over many weeks to the different light before planting. Also the plant has not had to endure wind and the movement may be too damaging. With the extra breezes plant dry out much faster outside.
Let's not even talk about the many insects and diseases the plant now encounters. Are the soils the same? Does you plant prefer an acidic highly humus soil and are you planting into the same?
If you want to bring the plant back in.........forget about putting in soil outside. The roots will have spread far to large to stuff back into a pot. Plus you have to contend with the lower light inside and any unwelcome hitch hikers on the plant or in the soil.
That said, some people will summer the plants in a shaded area but keeping them in the pot and setting that into the ground. Try that first.

Figure out if the plant you are attempting to grow is a plant that prefers shade or sunlight, which growing media the plant prefers and how much water it needs. The directions should be on the tag but if not track down the info on the net. Also check the temperature your plant needs to thrive and be sure that the weather in your area will meet its requirements. Many ornamental plant actually do better in shady, wet sheltered environments so find out what it needs.

Plant it in a pot. It can grow outside while the weather is good and then you can bring it in for the winter. Be sure to spray it for bug before you bring it in.

Don't. Just leave it in the pot. Take it outside. Be cautious the lighting is similar to how it was inside, ie, don't set in direct sun if only indirect inside..........
Water often.
Take back in when the weather changes.
Then you haven't bothered the roots.
