First, let's work on the left hand side of your equation, the 3x - 33
This means, for instance, to see if it can be simplified at all.
Multiply x and 3
Multiply x and 1

The x just gets copied along.

The answer is x

x

3*x evaluates to 3x

3*x-33 evaluates to 3x-33

So, all-in-all, the left hand side of your equation can be written as: 3x-33

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, let's work on the right hand side of your equation, the 2x +26
Multiply x and 2
Multiply x and 1

The x just gets copied along.

The answer is x

x

2*x evaluates to 2x

2*x+26 evaluates to 2x+26

The right hand side of your equation can be written as: 2x+26

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So with these (any) simplifications, the equation we'll set out to solve is:

3x-33 = 2x+26

Move the -33 to the right hand side by adding 33 to both sides, like this:

To the left hand side:
-33 + 33 = 0

The answer is 3x

To the right hand side:
26 + 33 = 59

The answer is 59+2x

Now, the equation reads:
3x = 59+2x

Move the 2x to the left hand side by subtracting 2x from both sides, like this:
From the left hand side:
3x - 2x = x

The answer is x

From the right hand side:
2x - 2x = 0

The answer is 59

Now, the equation reads:
x = 59
To isolate the x, we have to divide both sides of the equation by the other variables
around the x on the left side of the equation.

hi cassandra, in the question you are to find the value of x
and also it means iof you mltiply 3 by a value and subtract it by 33 it will be the same as if you mutiply 2 by the same value and add it with 26

since we don't know that value that is why is called x, so

3x - 33=2x +26

you then collect those that have x on one side and those that do not on the other side

3x -2x= 33 +26, you should know that if number is transfered from one side to the other the sign will change if it is - it becomes +

3x-2x=x
33+26=59
therefore x=59

ok get -33 and +26 together---add 33 to 26 and then add the 2x and 3x and the divide the 2x + the 3x by the 59 you get from adding 33 and 26. you want x by it's self. you should end up with 59---moving the 2x to the 3x side you subtract and end up w/ just 59.

What you are trying to find out is how much is X
Lets take this one step at a time
3x-33 = 2x + 26 (add 33 to both sides)
3x = 2x + 59 ( Subtract 2x from both sides)
3x - 2x = 59 or
X = 59
In order to check your work substitute 59 for x on both sides of the equasion
