There is no reason to use profane words. Everywhere I go I hear people swearing, on the bus, at the store, at the mall, on tv, in music, etc. I think it is a really low class thing to do and I don't see why anyone would want to do it. I know we all get mad and lose our temper and we might use a few curse words, but people use profanity in their everyday conversations. They seem to have no respect for the children or women around them, and worse than that is a woman who uses profanity, just plain tacky. Why is is necessary to talk from the sewer?

as far as freedom of speech, why is it ok to use profanity but if a person says something someone else considers racist, it's not freedom of speech?

i agree with you, but unfortunetly curse words are a part of everyday life. If anything i cant stand it when people curse in places where there are lots of children and families present...its just sad.

I am a woman that uses profanity and just because someone thinks I'm from the sewer so what? I don't use it around children but any other time I feel if I want to use it I can. It's called freedom of speech and I don't see any law against it. I'm not low class just because I use it. Just because you don't like it means your going to change the world. Watch T.V. it's loaded with tons of cussworlds everyday. Now for the question we use it because we're not practicing self control.

Answering your interesting question: I ain't no edjucated guy, ma'am, but here is what I think: Profanity IS profanity. The four letter words are used in some poems, but when I come think of it, I find it doesn't relate to the original meaning of poetry. Those great poets and writers were masters of English that they used words/expressions which enriched the intended meaning away from the F-words. They had full respect for English, English literature, the field of poetry, and the reader.. and their poetry could be read by any (age). There ain't no censorship involved here, no limitation on freedom of expressing one's feeling, and none of that crap... Its just hard for me to read a poem written in a gutter language. How many in this section 'd put up with the crappy language of rap songs, or its attached KINETIC education, or the IQ level of its teenage fans. The bottom line is: when the poet uses the FwordK, that means he is out of words, vocabulary, alternative expressions, you name it.. or else he ain't having no respect for his reader.. when poets are suppose to make the world more beautiful!!! This poem is a perfect form for bringin' out such genuine question.

The proper use of profanity is an art mostly exercised by old poops who have had a lifetime to practice!
Now, the use of profanity by thugs has gotten entirely out of hand and is a blotch on the correct use of profanity. Prisons are the source of the new rain of excessive violent and poisonous vile spewed out by the youth of this nation. It is a reflection of how we tolerate excess. It's been allowed in our schools and anywhere the youth congregate. It really needs oversight by parents and teachers and there should be immediate desciplinary responses to kids who pick it up from their siblings, parents, or older children.
Thanks

The use of casual profanity is a good alternative way to let out built up aggression A profane word is only as bad as you think it is so maybe these obscenities could be considered socally acceptable to those you hear saying it.

I think that it all starts with a select few who are trying to be cool and rebellious, then other people hear them, some think they are cool and other's don't but regardless once you hear a word so many times it becomes difficult not to say it. Remember when the "like" think went around. Some people are like still doing that. :o) But really it's kinda dumb b/c it makes them look like they have a very short vocabulary. Plus, in my belief, I think it's a sin to say certain words (not necessarilly all curse word, depends on context and timing) but why sin? Normally when people sin it's b/c they are getting something from it at that time. But cursing? what can you possibly gain from that?
It's a really hard habit to break. I used to curse like a sailor. and drink like one too. But anything can be changed if you choose for it to be.

I would rather people use profanity than be dragged away by the police for using it, wouldn't you?

i agree but it makes kids feel rebellious, cool, and swear words can replace almost any word in a sentence so its easy for kids to put them into there speech
