well I have read like the first three...a long long time ago and I also saw the movies, so I remember basically, sorta kinda what is happening to Harry.
But, do you guys think I should read five and six over again before I purchase 7? Or, is it okay if I start in the middle of the series (7)?...

I think you should read them all. Ive read all the books more than once and now im reading them all over just for fun before the last book comes out. lol.
I think its a good idea to have read all the books before the last one though.

Well, first of all, if you think book seven is the middle of the series, than you should go back and read the other books again. It is the very last Harry Potter book. Many people are not looking forward to reading it because it means the end (although these same people can't wait to read it).

However, if you have truly read the books you should be fine reading book seven. Although I recommend to everyone that they go back and read the earlier books again anyway at some point. The author has planned these books out very thoroughly and has interwoven so many things into the books. Everytime I reread them I find little things I missed the first time that have to do with future books.

You can also visit mugglenet.com. It is a wonderful site that you can get lost in and discover things you've missed too.

You can start with the seventh; JK Rowling usually gives the basic necessary details and summary of the series usually in the first chapter of each book.
But, if you want to really enjoy the series read books 5 & 6th. When I read 5th I skipped some exaggerated chapters like 'Hagrid's return'. The 5th book is not properly edited (in my opinion) and there are lot of dragging stuff. It's more like a first draft. Stll the book's ending is very gripping and there is a lot of humor, suspence & thrill. The 6th is much shorter with the usual Harry Potter delightfullness.
Are you reading the books just for the sake of it? Because me, I have read each book way more than one time. I abslutely *love* the series. I wouldn't have needed to ask people should I read this volume or that 'cause, well, I *want* to read each book.
If you just want to know the plot, just go to Wikipedia or Harry Potter Lexicon or one of many other Harry Potter sites, there will be more than enough useful plot summaries.

The fun in reaching the peak is not by flying to it, but by climbing to it.
You can always read the last chapter of a book or watch the climax of the movie (before you read the entire book or watch the movie), the end result will be the same, but the experience will be different.
If you are a parent, you'll like to see your child grow, rather than live away from her and meet her when she's completely grown...not that she will be different, but the experience of development will be missing.
You can buy a Bonsai, or you can grow your own.
Good books are the creative expressions of a writer, they are not like stocks in the market, which you buy when the price is right. You should not deny the vicarious joys and thrills which the creativity of the writer has used for ensuring that the whole experience is more immersive.

I've read each of the Harry Potter books at least twice and I've decided to reread Books 5 and 6 before Book 7 comes out. I think it helps to keep things fresh in my mind, that way, while I'm reading Book 7, things aren't so confusing.

But that's just me...

Yes, if you don't know for sure what's going on, then you should read at least number 6 before you get 7, just to make sure that you're caught up on everything. And to make sure that it doesn't confuse you, not knowing who everyone is or what's going on.

You should read book 5,6 first as you would miss out on so much that has happened, myself i love the books. i would not want to miss reading any of them ,and the films are great too but they do miss parts out too, of course it depends on how much you enjoy reading
