When your driving accelerate a Little, if the knock goes away at anytime between acceleration, and deceleration, The crank bearing is bad.If the knock is there at all times while engine is running, then the problem is on the top end wrist pin .Other sounds are tapping and are valve related. There are other reasons for knocking noises, such as if it's a Chevy Suburban, which is common. Knowing year make and model would help.

It could be several things. Main bearings will usually be louder when the engine is started and quiets down as the oil starts circulating in the engine. Rod bearings will make pretty much thesame noise as main bearings, but usually don't quiet down as much. Wrist pins make a knocking noise too. If it is bearings, the chances are you have low oil pressure also. A good mechanic in your area can listen to the engine and give you a good idea of what the problem is.
