Keyholders (if the company wanted to maintain access security, the physical access keys and electronic access codes would NOT be in the hands of the same person)

If there is a separate Building Security Department, it would typically have zero overlap with Staff in any other Department (although it is quite possible that HR and Building Security Departments report to the same Director).

[giving Staff 'dual reporting' responsibilities is a good way to compromise Security, however these days of computer controlled building access systems, often IT (System/Network) Security and Building Security would be in the same Department]

The term "gatekeeper" is not normally used in UK Companies (we would have Receptionist or Front Desk, or maybe Customer Liaison Security Staff)....

A 'swipe-card' system uses the old fashioned 'magnetic strip' type of Credit Card to control staff access.

It is often worse than useless - Security Staff no longer bother to identify people by face or name - instead they just let through anyone with a "valid" card.

Cards are handed out like confetti to temp staff and cleaners - but when cards are lost it usually takes ages to get a replacement (and often there is no system in place to immediately 'cancel' the lost card) = permanent staff start lending cards to each other just to get in and thousands of lost cards are soon floating around outside the company ..

The only really good way of securing a business is to introduce vigerous cheks befor employing staff - and then make everyone responsible for Security. However if the Police Checks etc. take too long, HR starts taking short-cuts (like asking Temp Agencies to 'only send pre-vetted staff') just to get the job done .. the Heathrow Airport security system is a point in case ...
