When I try to start flowers and veggies from seed indoors, when they get about 2" tall they are spindly and just lay down, dead - what am I doing wrong?

Probably not enough light. Starting seeds in the window makes them grow towards the light source and makes them leggy. Starting them indoor should be done with grow lights with the light source directly over the seedlings and very close to them, within two inches, adjusting the lights upward as they grow.

A couple of things will probably help:

Don't have them indoors - put them outside in a sheltered place where they get morning sun (not full sun) or put them out for a bit in the morning and bring them in around lunchtime, before it gets too hot

Make sure you're growing them in rich soil or planting mix - they need nutrients to grow properly (worm castings mixed with soil are excellent)

Don't overwater - they just need a light spray with a spritzer bottle to keep the soil moist, not wet.

are you thining them out and spacing them well enough cause they will not grow if they are too crowded . did you water enough and fertilize ? try again and good luck . also could be poor soil condition. use potting soil or garden soil and mix in with your ground soil . good luck and I hope I helped.
