It depends on what time limits they have on the audition tape.

You should definitely do what shows you and your talent to the highest possible level -- whether that is a monologue, a scene, or contrasting pieces that demonstrate your range.

Since its an arts college, I would encourage you to consider something slightly serious, and very contemporary. If you have the freedom to add a contrasting piece, I'd suggest a completely different direction for it -- perhaps a little Shakespeare, or a comic piece.

Are you in a competition with "Zidanefe" by chance? See pervious Q's.

Originality is often best, even if it isn't on a popular theme. SunDance Film Festival is a great example of that premise.

I advise shy away from controversy, esecially in satire. It's already been done, more times than there are success stories in theater. Beyond that, what may be humor to you, could cause an audience with handfulls of tomatoes, to pelt you into Ketchup.

Certainly, comedy also largely depends on timing... By that I mean, not only split second timing in delivery, but in what is timely and topical in the present sense.

That depends on where your talent lies. Comedy requires a sense of timing that isn't required for a lot of other acting. Highly dramatic acting also requires a good sense of timing and pace. Think of what you're good at and do a piece of that genre
