Is there a way I can set my cingular modem to only connect in 3g mode?

I have a cingular wireless modem built into my laptop and it works ok when connected to the 3g network but not so good when it switches to the edge network. I want to force it to stay on 3g.

It will stay on the 3G network by default if it sees a 3G signal. the only reason it would goto the Edge Network is begause no 3G network was detected in the area you are at.
