Impossible to judge. The world is full of selfishness... and some!

BUT - Having left their children alone while they went out to eat, some might think they have paid a hell of a price for what is indeed selfishness!

I, therefore, ask the next questions:
1. Why do they STILL leave the twins with others?
2. What does having children actually mean to them?
3. What has REALLY happened to Madeleine?

It's the CHILDREN I feel for!

You take some beating as a selfish person, I am amazed at this sick type of question

Look ! They made a mistake, they thought the kids were safe , that area is normally safe. The media circus took off and what do you expect them to do tell the media to stop? The media may even find Madeline it is just possible. They went to see the Pope as Catholics would, these people would rather have the girl back than anything, Pope visit. Private flight publicity anything and I repeat anyone who thinks otherwise should be ashamed. I also repeat, some of the repeated comments are plain sick and envious or both

Who knows?

One thing I did find interesting were Gerry's posts on Friends Reunited.

"Good to see so many familiar names and a few faces! Is anyone not doing well? Finished medicine and working as a cardiology registrar in Leicester since Jan 2000 (hopefully temporarily). Had a brilliant year in New Zealand 1995/96. Married to Kate (Healy, for those docs in Glasgow) and very happy although no kids-yet!

Don’t get to Glasgow that often but have bumped into a few old friends around the southside where my mum still lives.

June 2003- Still in Leicester but now family of 3 after birth of Madeleine Beth on 12/05/03. Thankfully she takes after her mother although definitely has my lungs even without a dew (sic) drinks.

August 2004- Bones- glad i left after 5th year! Currently in Amsterdam learning some fancy heart scanning (MRI) but returning to UK in New Year when hopefully will become family of 5. Looking for a consultant job and shortlist is Glasgow, Liverpool, Leicester in fact pretty much anywhere north of Birmingham

April 2005- Back in Leicester and looking for a job. Now father of three with Sean and Amelie joing (sic) Maddie. Anyone fancy babysitting?!"

So let me get this straight: Gerry McCann was in Amsterdam from (at least) August 2004 to April 2005. During this period, he was unemployed - were his children were born during his absence? Eight months to learn to use an MRI scanner? Is this man really a cardiovascular surgeon? It seems that only a few years ago he was working as a registrar. And while he was away (and unemployed), was his wife working full-time to support the family?

I get the impression that they are not that well-off financially, and in fact that they have a mountain of debt.
Kate McCann works part-time in Melton Mobray and Gerry works in a hospital in Leicester as a consultant cardiologist (which is a fancy term for someone who knows how to use the MRI machine and read the results). Average NHS salary is about £55k p.a. full-time.

Anybody know Rothley? It's the most expensive village/town/city in the East Midlands (according to The Time's "Ten Most Expensive Places to Live in Britain").

Now I am starting to understand why the McCanns were so reluctant to part with any of their own money to search for their daughter - they don't have any!

No,they are not selfish people, careless, yes, not selfish. Both,I beleive are doctors, therefore fairly educated,so they should have know better than to leave their children unattended in a foreign country with evil people around.I understand the hotel was providing baby sitters but they ( the baby sitters) were not engaged,so they,(the McCanns have to take the full responsibility for their behaviour

the mcCanns have done something that is terrible and will have to live with that for the rest of their lives, however i believe what they are doing to try and find her is only what any other parent would do, i know i would move heaven and earth if one of my kids went missing. it is a hard lesson for them to learn and maybe more people should take on board what has happened because i would bet my last pound that on holidays everywhere there are some parents doing exactly the same

I think they were very stupid leaving a child alone and for that they were extremely selfish, however I would be doing the same as them in an effort to get my daughter back. I would do the same right now and my daughter is 27!

no they are not selfish they were just nieve and now the ones that are being pathetic and selfish are the portuguese police with their secrecy bull.... if this had happened in britain they would have probanly found her by now because here they really go for it when they are looking for someone and plaster it every where.... we are behind you all the way mr and mrs mccann.

selfish would be to roll over and go to pieces...You can knock them all you like but what would you think if they just returned to Britain and went back to work? Anyone not moved by this tragedy is callous.there is a golden opportunity here to address the issue of child abduction worldwide. If that is the only good thing to come out of it so be it.

Well, you certianly couldn't use the term 'most caring people ever'. I haven't met everyone in the world so I can't fully answer your question though. There could possibly more selfish people around.

I wouldn't say selfish, I would say negectful after all what decent parents would leave 3 children in a room with the patio door unlocked why you went out and enjoyed yourself.
