Claim the whole asteriod as there property?

I thought it was just planets and moons mentioned in the international space treaty?

no cause the government would just put taxes on it and then they would want to throw tunnel condos all over the damn thing and then the property value would go down, unless it was on the edge of the kuiper belt with a front row seat to a super nova

It would be exceedingly hard to build a settlement on an asteroid single-handedly, however space is so vast that if you lived on a remote, small asteroid with a low albedo(reflectivity), chances are you would never be found out, and even if you were, what is the government going to do, especially if the asteroid is just big enough for what you want. There are hundreds of thousands of asteroids out there, most less than a mile across. If however you tried to legally obtain an asteroid, your chances would be much slimmer. Not even a worldwide government can control every body in the solar system, there are far too many.

The international treaty says that no object outside the earth can be claimed for sole ownership.
