I gave my friend some money to beat up an old friend of mine who got mad at me for no reason and started saying mean things about me behind my back. I wanted to beat up the girl talking about me by myself but she knows me and I know she is the type to call the cops. I will lose my nurses license if I get an assult charge, so I paid my friend to beat her up instead. I know that I can be charged with conspiracy to commit assult, do you think that this ie also ethically wrong, do you have any other suggestions?

Yes. In most, if not all places, conviction on a conspiracy charge is the same as if you had committed the crime. I think you will still loose your nursing license and probably go to jail.

Not to insult you or anything, but that was pretty childish. You should grow up because this isn't going to be the last time this will happen behind your back. Having a nursing license, you are probably fairly well educated and I would think you would have more sense than this.

Unfortunately the ol' "It's my friends, I swear it isn't mine" excuse doesn't work. The only thing you can do is wait-out the courts decision and if you are found guilty of possession (which you probably will be, by the sounds of it) then you should go to your hospital administrator and plead your case to them and how dedicated you are to being a nurse. This is yet another case of a ridiculous outcome for a even more ridiculous law (marijuana prohibition). I hope that after being involved in this that you become active in supporting Bill 390 in California to stop people getting caught up in the harsh and unnecessary laws of cannibas prohibition. The person above scoffing at the fact that marijuana is practically harmless is clearly an uninformed idiot who need not be paid attention to. EDIT: I also believe that it wasn't your pipe, as someone who smokes would never call it a "drug pipe". So for anyone doubting that it isn't hers, I'd say that's pretty good proof.

Yes, it is ethically wrong. This will also cause you to lose your nursing license.

My suggestion: grow up. A lot of people in your lifetime are going to say mean things about you. Some of them will be "active" friends, and some former. It is a part of life, and something an adult learns to deal with. "beating up" someone isn't going to solve anything - all it is going to do is cause more problems, and give the person more stuff to say bad about you.

And you do realize that by paying someone to actually commit the assault, you can be - in the eyes of the law - held as if you ACUTALLY did the beating yourself, right? I mean, people that hire individuals to kill another are still charged with committing murder along with the conspiracy charge.

But like I said - grow up and deal. It is all part of being an adult. If you care so much what people think about you, then you will go crazy getting everyone to like you.

YES!
What planet are you living on honey that you think this would be okay to do?
I don't mean to be so harsh but damn! You have no business going around paying people to cause harm to someone else regardless of what that person has done to you. It is ILLEGAL, UNETHICAL, and just plain WRONG-
MOVE ON! GROW UP! Ignore her and go on about your life.

Stop being only concerned about yourself and losing your license. Be concerned about your effect in the world.
I'm sure you became a nurse for some very GOOD reasons.

Don't let someone else being a jerk turn YOU into one.

You should lose your license. You are not ethical enough to have a state license for anything. Not only can your friend go to prison, but you can also. They will let you practice in prison without a license. You are probably afraid of her and that's why you paid someone else to do your dirty work.

You just made a confession to the crime right here. I suggest not paying attention to that kind of cr*p. You're not in grade school anymore. Just leave it alone, and in time karma will come back on her. But if you or your friend go through with your idea, then it comes back on both of you. Besides if you're an adult - why listen to childish things...

That violates the "Golden Rule", besides you could be arrested just for talking about it.
