For good from wicked. Or Defying gravity. They are the most spectacular, sad and (dare I make a really bad pun) uplifting songs I've ever heard!

Of course almost every song has huge potential, you just have to listen to it in different ways, when I picture a song on stage, and get very involved in it, I get shivers with out fail.

You won't strictly get any wrong answers here and thankfully we are all "Moved" in various ways, even individually in various pieces of music.

We most often relate a piece to US rather than to the character, or even the scenario they happen to be in, though we may relate those as well.

It's purely a matter of personal choice, and experiences in which we have been engaged in something that has "touched" us and the songs remind us of that/those.

At the moment I'm listening to "Memories" and "The Addressing of Cats", not only because I totally enjoy the play, but because within it, and its music there are metaphors/analogies/ and comparisons I can relate to.

The best are those that have you humming or singing as you exit the theater and recall years after.

I have two songs. From the "old school" of Broadway, I'd say "You'll Never Walk Alone" from Carousel. From today's Broadway, I'd say "For Good" from Wicked. Both songs make me cry. They also make me think.

There is always a sort of bottomless ache in an unrequited love so "On My Own" from Les Miserables would be my pick for most moving song..

"Till We Reach That Day" from Ragtime is very moving. I get chills everytime I listen to it.
"Astonishing" from Little Women has great lyrics that can raise your spirits on any occasion.

Even though the song is completely over-used, "For Good" from Wicked has great meaning.

Also, "Stars" from Les Mis has a strong message.

O K L A H O M A moves you out of your seat whatever you try to do - - - macho football players have been seen surging into song belting out "Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain
And the wavin' wheat can sure smell sweet
When the wind comes right behind the rain. """"

then there is that old stand bye written by George M Cohan and done right by James Cagney, "I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy,' but that might be too old fashion for you.

As a Jew I just love "Jesus Chirst Superstar," it almost makes me want to take communion.

A final number, hmmm, gonna have to go with "Springtime For Hitler" from Mel Brooks,

Peace...

If you are looking for something that is simple, beautiful, and moves you before you realize you are being moved, go with "Daddy's Hands" from Ragtime. It is a ballad that croons, and I believe it is a soprano. Break a leg!
