I really want to end the year well, and see all the people I love (and I really don't want to sound greedy, but the gifts would REALLY help as my $ situation is not the best...). Should I have a graduation party? and what do you normally do at grad parties anyway?

Oh, by the way, I don't drink or smoke, or support either.

I think it's a great idea -- but don't expect a lot of $$$. People tend to give sentimental gifts or cards, if they are students.
In my town, graduates had kind of an open house about two hours after graduation, and it lasted until evening. They generally served punch, had some nuts and mints, and maybe some graduation cake. They sent out invitations to undergraduates, and the undergraduates kind of roamed around to people's houses, saying goodbye.
But a real good-bye would be to have a party in early August, before people go off to school. Get together, go to the beach, don't spend any money, and just have fun one last time before you leave home. If you have friends who are going straight to work (or, eeps, having babies), then have a good-bye party a week or so after graduation.
The best thing about a grad party is that you can make plans to get together for the summer, to make it the best summer before you head off. Great memories.

You should defiantly have a graduating party!!! Having a party in no way shape or form makes you greedy. Gifts are given out of support as you begin to start your life as an adult, and hopefully go to college. It is a time for your friends and family to show how proud of you they are, and also a time to thank your family for their love and support. As far as what goes on at a grad party--it depends. I have been to HS grad parties that were everything from kegers to a time just to bond with family and friends. Do whatever will make you happy, and what your parents will allow :)

Don't feel so bad about it because you are probably not the only one who has a parent calling to check that it's safe. With all the crack heads and meth addicts out there she wants to make sure you are going to be in a safe place. I'm sure it's making you feel like a 12 year old. Maybe you could stop her from doing this if you have a talk with her about the fact that you won't be getting into any trouble or hanging out with a messed up crowd. As long as you have not been into trouble she really shouldn't be so hard on you. She loves you and is having trouble letting you grow up. A lot of parents are like this, not just yours.

of course you should have a grad party. I live in Singapore, adn nobody cards, so what the seniors did this year was rent out a club for aobut 2000 dollars, and then get just about everyone except for freshman to go. Tickets were 50 bucks each, so they made aobut 3000 bucks. But since your in the states, you could just have a pool party. . .
