This definitely helps: fill a hot water bottle from a just boiled kettle, so it's really hot. Wrap the bottle in a thin t-shirt, and press it against your stomach. If you get pain in your lower back also, get a second bottle and do the same for your back.

The heat really does help numb the pain; it may leave red welts on your skin but these will fade, so don't worry.

You'll probably also need painkillers. Paracetemol work well, but you have to eat a tiny bit with them, even if it's just a biscuit.

For really excruciating pain, I've found that a mixture of paracetemol and nurofen does the trick - but don't take too many of either, read the instructions carefully.

heat always helps a bit; whether u decide to keep a hot water bottle against ur lower abdomen or just keep a warm cloth around ur waist, whatever works is ok..

if u need medicines, standard painkillers should do it but if u feel u need it alot, u should see a doc. in some cases it may be useful to start birth control pills to lessen the discomfort of periods.

diet also has an effect on whatever discomfort u feel; try to stay away from caffeine during periods; so coffee, tea, coke, etc. and increase ur iron intake; dark chocolate, spinach, or take supplements

I used to get horrible pains!

But i took a pill when i felt the pain but i got it from mexico, so that wont help you unless you go or know someone from mexico who could get it. So you could take the midol just as the other people answered.

Also what i take and i highly recomend is taking some omega-3 pills. Its fish oil pills and for some reason they really help with the pain. They dont taste bad nor smell bad.

good luck!

You can also try upping the level of iron you eat during this time by eating things like spinach, raisins, and peanut butter (if not allergic to peanuts). I started to do this several months ago and found it very helpful.

If your cramps are so bad that it interferes with your ability to function on a daily basis during your period then this needs to be evaluated by your dr to see what they think is going on.

A few days before your period is due to arrive. Start taking 200 mg of ibuprofin every six hours. It helps with the inflamation that causes your muscles to cramp.

Medicine wise, Advil or aspirin.
Eat/drink hot (temperature) foot and nothing cold. Not even cold water. tap water would be best. Eat a few almonds each day. No yogurt. Hot pads would help too.

Would you believe that there is now a revolutionary napkin that eases your pain and keeps you clean and healthy too?

I've tried the product and it's really amazing.
