There have been several of those for India. But I'd say the most dramatic one would be World War 2. In order to gain their cooperation and aid the British offered them the one thing they thought they would have to fight to get, independence from British rule. It resulted in the establishment of a sovereign India after a long period of occupation.

The war b/w Prithviraj and Mahmud of Ghazni. This war led to an entry of not only the mughals, but also the Islamic religion whose results we (both Hindus & Muslims) are still suffering . I think this event has affected our past, present and it looks like it's going to plague the future too.

many wars have turned india history in diffrent direction. the impt one being war b/w Prithviraj chauhan and Ghazni which destroyed rajput rule, first battle of panipat which established mughal dynasty. but according to me its Revolt of 1857 which awkened indians to india to be free and laid the basis for our freedom struggle and due to ehich india today is leading in an atmosphere of independent air
