I heard from many people that musically talented people (like singers or performers) have really selfish and harsh personalities. I'm not talking about people who play the guitar for a hobby, I mean people who always perform on stage and have fabulous musical gifts. I heard they are the most unpleasant people to be around with and don't have that many friends. Do you agree?

It depends on the person. There are exceptions to this rule, of course.

That is where the term Diva came from. Opera singers would act out in rages. It was not a particular bent of personality but the rigors of the career (not talking for days to preserve a voice that could fill and auditorium) By the way young pop stars who have hijacked the term are not deserving of it. The electronically washed music they make is not on the par of other performers.
Then think of a great violinist. They are in to make a lot of money and at the same time have to be charity cases and lent or given very expensive instruments they might not be able to afford. Kind of like being in the middle between heaven and hell.

I don't agree. That's just a really bad stereotype. Look at all the shiny happy people making shiny happy music. I guess the so-called divas have their reputations because of their fame and commercial success.

Then you have the iconic figures in music like rock and punk, who I'm sure part of their success and mystique came from their big personalities. A lot of very talented, creative artists also channel their inner self, experience and flaws to make their art (not just musicians but poets, writers, painters, etc.) which may come across as self-absorbed and narcissistic. Or the fame itself ruins people. But then I'm sure some people are just plain a$$holes.
