First of all, congratulations, and you have my envy. Working at a Video Games store is such a dream job for me.

But to your question. The best advice I can give you is try and find the time to play the games yourself. You will be able to advise your customers alot better if you can form an opinion of each title yourself.

There are a number of reliable sites that offer game reviews. ign.com is pretty good, but you might also try GameRankings.

As for cheat codes, guides and walkthroughs, I find GameFaqs to be quite reliable.

There are also shows on television, X-Play on the G4 channel for example, that provide reviews and information about new and upcoming games.

THE BASICS TO SELLING VIDEO GAMES IS SIMPLE!

all you need to know are the...

-Names of the systems

-Type of games

-Your ABC's...

NAMES OF SYSTEMS
---------------------------------
PS2- Play Station 2
known for good RPG's

PS3 - Play Station 3
probably same as number 2

Xbox
good for shooters

Xbox 360
probably same as the first one?

Wii
the Wii Sports, and such are good for non-gamers

The type of game is probably the most important,

RPG- also known as "Role Playing Games", which are basicly games where you play a specific character in a specific journey with a specific mission
the most popular games like this are: Elder Scrolls and Final Fantasy(dont know too many RPGs...)
(NOTE: Most RPG's are for PS2)

FPS-also known as "Frames Per Second" most games like this are 3D shooters which is simple enough,
the most popular games like this are: Counter-Strike, Gears of War, Halo, Call of Duty.
(NOTE: Most FPS games or Shooters are for Xbox or PC)

RTS-also known as "Real Time Strategy" Real Time Strategy games are games with those hundreds of little people that the player controls. The objective varies upon the game, like in the sims its to control their life.
I dont any/many games like this so I can't help you there
(NOTE: You do not have to know the actual objective or remember them to sell these)

hopefully this quick guide shows you about 4 years of gaming knowledged cooked real fast but sadly not adding enough spices and flavor =P

If you want to become good at a particular game, the key is patience and practise =)
