let's all be honest, Danica received all of the attention from the press for three years ago, because she had a strong qualifying run, a well known owner, and her team mate won the Indy 500....and she was a women in the IRL with pretty good equipment and team....Plus the IRL press machine pushed her to the media, trying to capitalize on these facts.

Now lets go to the present day, she still has a problem performing pit stops in race conditions....doesn't like to drive in traffic....and her good finishes seem to be more of the result of her team, then her driving ability.

Remember the media is in the business to build people up, just to tear them.....She is the current target, because she is the face of the IRL to the casual fan....

If she had not come along, and the next big name in the IRL was just Marco, he would been treated the same way....in fact, I predict that until he wins the Indy 500, the same attention that his father received for not winning be transferred to him....just how the racing press works.

So the short answer would by yes, whether or not she is a women or man, the same big deal would be made about not winning.

It isn't a big deal about her not winning a race yet. Everyone has their favorites, and the fact that she's a woman just makes her stand out more. A lot of people were talking about Marco Andretti, too-- b/c he's Mario's grandson and ran the Indy 500 at the ripe old age of 19. Danica Patrick is a pretty good driver--admit it. The media has been focusing as much on her mistakes on the learning curve as they have been rooting her toward success. They may point out her trouble getting the hang of pitting, but they don't mention how many other drivers have screwed that up in the past and caused accidents (which Patrick hasn't) in the process. She's had 2 top-5's and 8 top-10's and earned nearly a million dollars last season, and this season has 3 top-10's out of 5 races . That's not being female, that's being consitent and talented. She's getting a lot of press bc she's gorgeous, talented and determined. And I love her for it.

nope.

i understand a lot of women are gonna root for her and make
excuses for her that she hasn't had a lot a race's.

but the money she has made the stardom she has achieved
the press she take's away from men that have won many time's isn't fair.

if Danica Patrick was a man had 50 race's under his belt and never won they'd be broke unknown and no racing team would give them the best car in the IRL with the best pit crew's and the best mechanic's in the business.

she's just a novelty

No there would not. Just look down the roster of current drivers. There are more MEN who have not won a race yet, AND made more starts than Danica, but all anybody talks about is how she hasn't won yet, even though she still has less than 50 starts in the IRL. It isn't fair to her. She's finally in good equipment, and I think she'll get the job done at some point.

Yes, there would -- but only if "Dan" had driven in at least 100 races and wrecked a few cars in the process. The big hoopla over her not winning any races is definitely because she IS a woman, and we all "know" that women just are not good drivers.

Actually, a great many of the best drivers I know just happen to be women, so the thing about women not being good drivers is just another myth. "They" said that women would not be good pilots, either -- and "they" were proven wrong on that at least fifty years ago.

Only if there was a ton of potential, and even then, it wouldnt even come close.

The time will soon come that it will be discovered that Danica isnt that good, and then the media will try and find that next woman driver that can win a race.

No-but that's racing. Just about every driver has a "brand" aside from their actual driving ability. Tracy's sponsors like him because he's a rebel type. Schumi on the other hand, was partly chosen by Ferrari because he was %100 with the program. Danica's sponsor like her because she's a hot chick-there's not that much difference.

I don't think there would be, perfect question with all the talk this week about her. she seems to me as a casual fan like a competitive Indy driver - it is a matter of time until she wins one, especially now that she has a good ride.
