Light is definately NON-living. Light is a massless particle known as a photon. Visible light is just the visible part of the electromagnetic spectrum. (which includes radiowaves, gamma rays, ultraviolet light, etc.) By no means is it living.
Electromagnetic waves or fluctuations in the electromagnetic field over time are light.

Light is energy and is needed by all living beings. Whether light itself is living or not is a philosophical question. The normal definition of life applied to the carbon based life forms that we know on earth may not be applicable universally. If consciousness is included as the primary attribute of life, light may be alive! But we are really speculating here.

Light is electromagnetic radiation that is on a wavelength that is visible to the naked eye. It is not alive, it is a type of wave. Thats the scientific definition. Anything is possible though.
