Well, something I have always wondered is ... Israel currently has nuclear weapons, but up until recently, none of its neighbors had it (at least to anyone's knowlege).
What if Israel was attacked and somehow (despite a strong military) it saw itself on the verge of total defeat.
Would the Israeli government order the launch of nuclear weapons in the face of a conventional land war? Obviously, the choice would be difficult and the outcome extreme in either direction. Very Tom Clancy I guess.

Israel would never use nuclear weapons; if you research this topic really thoroughly, you'll find that they've never actually confirmed having nuclear weapons in the first place.
If indeed Israel does have them, good luck to her! Surrounded by hostile Arab nations on all sides, she needs some form of deterrent.
Why don't you write about Iran instead? Much more scary - because Iran has publicly threatened and vowed to wipe Israel off the map. It's now estimated that Iran will have functioning nuclear weapons within three years or less.

Just take a look at the news about Iran, and you'll see a very realistic situation taking form. The "worst case" could be as follows:
The President of Iran announces that his country now has fully functional nuclear warheads placed in strategic locations. He calls for Israel to release all of its Palestinian prisoners, dismantle all of its settlements in the West Bank, and allow tens of thousands of Palestinians to reclaim their family homes, or face nuclear annihilation.
Israel is, of course, unable to do all these things without committing suicide, and the UN starts to babble about diplomacy to reach a "compromise" between the two sides.
You can decide on an ending, but my preference would be that Iran and Israel work together to blow up the blowhards at the UN. ;)

The only reason for Israel or any other nation to launch a Nuclear strike would be as a pre-emptive strike against a known enemy who was about to strike them.
The real players in the game knew that a nuclear balance was held by Nations being afraid to go to the end-game of all out nuclear war as it would spell the end of life as we know it on the planet.
Religious fanatics dont care about that, they in their hate just want to see their "enemies" removed from the face of the earth, and dont care about the consequences to anybody else.

Do not take this personally. Perhaps if Israel obeyed God's laws then your government wouldn't need nuclear weapons? Or the help of the corrupt NeoCons...who, in case you don't know worship one of them Babylonian gods that God himself forbid your people to associate with.
Search goggle Bohemian Grove.
and, yes we are trying to get them out of power.
