I think that people who get angry and hateful over politics are probably like that about every opinion they hold.
Here to help, I don't think your help is needed in choosing our friends.

Politics is the process by which groups of people make decisions. In the USA the decisions made by government very seldom means life or death for the overwhelming majority of the people. Therefore, one would not expect that the opinions of one party or the other would engender as much hate as they do.
But, In the USA at the end of 2001, 10% of the population owned 71% of the wealth, and the top 1% controlled 38%. On the other hand, the bottom 40% owned less than 1% of the nation's wealth.
So, if the people were to vote based on their own interests, they would vote for the party that speaks for them, the democratic party, they would vote against the party that represent the rich and the large corporations, the republican party.
The republicans know this and what do they do to prevent people from voting their interests?
They divide the people and pit them against one another by appealing to their fears, their prejudices, their hate, in summary their basest instincts.
They brainwash them (or try to).
In achieving that, their main ally is the mainstream media.
The mainstream media is owned by the American corporations.
It all falls together, doesn't it.?

You know you are 100% correct. Now I started YQA, recently, and I am not of any group or party , but I have never seen so much fighting over very stupid stuff. Some times I think the Questions that pop out almost every second and cause this wars between like they call, Libs, Reps, Cons and Dem is asked by a foreign power, like may be Al qaeda, to divide and rule. And folks just act so childish over and over again.
If you ask a Question, that can't be argued, then the get no or 2 -3 answers. It is truly sad.
Best Regards.

Because politics is power and a LOT of people crave power over others. That is why we have a tripartite form of government, so that there will be a balance of power between the branches. Unfortunately, in a crisis, people tend to look to an INDIVIDUAL for answers and safety.

Anything that orchestrates governments such as politics will cause division because at times legislation is brought to the forefront to benefit one segment of society and not as much to the other. Most always, especially in the past decade, divisions are more evident because the parties in power are less likely to be inclusive in their governing styles.

It's not really politics but the Politicians.Again, the hate and anger have nothing to do with politics or even politicians but the ignorance and lack of awareness amongst the masses, they lead or represent and conveniently exploit.People get the type of politicians they deserve. We all have to work hard to change the system.

This seems very true if you just look at all the arguments between the conservatives and liberals in the politics section of yahoo answers. I think it might be because it is something people feel they can control, but in reality they can't.

The lefties are paranoid, and that irrationality is displayed as anger. There is a great article by Pat Santy.
I keep trying to post links to her website, she is a certified psychologist or psychiatrist but Y!A now kicks back any links to her site, wonder why.
Try to google this, it is a terrific piece on what you are asking,
"pat sanity political paranoia of the left"
